Facing the Music On Trade

Trade

Even the most ignorant knows that our national budget and our trade deficit have been astronomical for decades. These are completely out of control, and we vaulted ourselves down this path by a somewhat reckless support of Free trade. Literally I worked at companies where they were so terrified of competing companies having an advantage over them by exporting production that they recklessly sought to export the building of almost anything that they manufactured including software.

The result being that we hardly make anything anymore. This literally has to stop, and we don't really have a choice but to put tariffs on goods.  But if it's to be done it has to be done in a gradual phased-in manner where the balance of trade for each nation can be weighed and allowed to rebalance itself in working with that nation to balance the trade. Speaking of say Canada as they manufacture goods in the automobile industry, they are allowed to import bourbon from Kentucky and balance their trade.  So, the real tariffs must be connected to the percentage off of our trade with that nation.
